And I was correct

29 06 2010

  • 8:35 pm
  • on the indoor trainer in the garage
  • 77 degrees/84% humidity/heavy rain

This morning I got up with the chickens and swam:

Houston, we have a problem!

28 06 2010

This does not look like riding/running weather!

Start over

28 06 2010

Vitality shows not only in the ability to persist, but in the ability to start over – F. Scott Fitzgerald

All I can say is that I will try to do better from today.  I have gotten back into the junk food habit (or did I ever really quit?).

Note to self:  No sweets or icees this week.  If you want to be lean, you must eat lean.  You cannot eat fatty foods and junk, then expect to be lean.

Sincerity

28 06 2010

Sincerity:  Use no hurtful deceit.  Think innocently and justly; and, if you speak, speak accordingly.

Oh, I love the “if you speak” portion.  Ben is assuming that there would be a time where you should hold your tongue.  I will have a good time with this one this week.

Just the facts, ma’am

a few words for deep thought

24 06 2010

When we see ourselves ina situation which must be endured and gone through, it is best to make up our minds to meet it with firmness, and accomodate everything to it in the best way practical.  This lessens the evil, while fretting and fuming only serve to increase your own torments. – Thomas Jefferson

The line between failure and success is so fine the we … are often on the line and do not know it.  How many a man has thrown up his hands at a time when a little more effort, a little more patience, would have achieved success. – Elbert Hubbard

You cannot change yesterday and you cannot influence tomorrow, but what you do today can heal things from the past and improve things for the future.  Do not waste today – carpe diem! – Kristi Young

Wednesday pm

24 06 2010

I rode:

  • 10.11 miles
  • 59:22
  • 5:15 pm
  • Half by myself and half with Richard when he got home from work.  We rode country roads around our hood.
  • 82.4 degrees/84% humidity/scattered clouds

We had to pick Kati up from the grandparents for practice.  So, I came back to finish up.

I rode:

  • 2.91 miles
  • 17:03
  • 7:18 pm
  • 88 degrees/67% humidity/clear
  • By myself around the hood and local roads

I took Kati to practice with plans to run around the ballfield.  I forgot my watch and thought I forgot my shoes, but Kati had put them in the backseat for me. :-)   I came back home, got my stuff together, and ran there.

I ran:

  • 2.13 miles
  • 30:32
  • 8:15 pm
  • 84.9 degrees/74% humidity/clear

Kati practiced until 10:15, we showered and hit the bed around 11:00.  She slept on our floor, because Trey stayed at Gran’s another night.  She kept waking me up to tell me that she was still awake (maybe an icee wasn’t a good idea) until 12:00.  At that point I turned off my 5:00 am alarm.  One day I need to get back into my “hour in the morning/hour in the evening routine”, but probably not this week.  You fit it in where it fits.

I did it!

23 06 2010

I thought I might melt, but I did it.  I cannot decide the proper time for running, but mornings are not working out very well.  Of course, it is hard to get charged up about running in the evening right through a heat advisory.

Four miles is a long way and I have learned that I am not much of a loop runner.  Kati had to be at practice at 5:30 and would not have to be picked up until 7:30ish (which turned into 8:00!).  So, the world was my oyster – or at least West Monroe was my crawfish!  I wanted to find a nice out and back run that was nice and flat with a little shade.  A convenience store at the mid-point would also be nice.  Hey, I’m easy to please.  The problem with finding a flat route is that I live in the piney hills, so there is not much flat ground.  Happily, the hills are the rolling type not the Mt. Everest type.  Shade was also a little of a problem since it was only 5:30, but I did pretty good with that.  I also found a route from our old church to a convenience store and back.  Thanks to Daily Mile, I altered the course (adding a few streets on the way back) to come right to 4 miles.  I was really happy with the planning and had a good run.  It was 100 degrees with a heat index of 106 when I was planning and I expected to be drenched with sweat.  I did not sweat ONE BIT until I stopped at Exxon, then it came pouring down.  I bought a bottle of Smart Water that mostly went right over my head.  It had a squirt spout and was great for that.  So, in summary, I ran:

  • 4.1 miles
  • 1:00:05 (not a great pace, but there was a lot of traffic and hills)
  • 6:03 pm
  • From the old church to the Exxon and back
  • 98.1 degrees/43% humidity/clear

I slept in this morning.  In the past week 1 friend, 1 co-worker, 2 in-laws and 1 husband have had a stomach bug.  I woke up at 12:40 hurting all over.  I popped some Ibuprofen and turned off my alarm.  I feel fine today, but I wanted to make sure to get enough rest.  My bike will still be waiting for me this afternoon!

It looks like a great day for a run!

You’re not the boss of me

22 06 2010

Everybody was my boss yesterday!  I slept in, letting my laziness be the boss of me.  I thought it would be OK, since I only needed to ride and then walk since it is a rest day for running.  Then, everyone else wanted to be my boss:

  • Kati has to be at practice at 5:00 (take off work early, so I have to go in early)
  • Can you take my to ride with a friend?
  • Pick up Kati from practice
  • Pick up Richard from the friends
  • Help Trey set up Netflix on Wii
  • Throw together a hotdog for everyone (almost everyone – Kati refused, and I think she had an icee for dinner)

In between all of that I rode twice – once to the ballfield, then again around the neighborhood before dark:

  • 7.92 miles
  • 44:48
  • 6:38 pm and 8:15 pm

This morning, I did not sleep in (I learned my lesson on that).  I swam:

  • 1700 meters
  • 57:00
  • 5:20 am
  • lap pool at the gym
