I thought I might melt, but I did it. I cannot decide the proper time for running, but mornings are not working out very well. Of course, it is hard to get charged up about running in the evening right through a heat advisory.
Four miles is a long way and I have learned that I am not much of a loop runner. Kati had to be at practice at 5:30 and would not have to be picked up until 7:30ish (which turned into 8:00!). So, the world was my oyster – or at least West Monroe was my crawfish! I wanted to find a nice out and back run that was nice and flat with a little shade. A convenience store at the mid-point would also be nice. Hey, I’m easy to please. The problem with finding a flat route is that I live in the piney hills, so there is not much flat ground. Happily, the hills are the rolling type not the Mt. Everest type. Shade was also a little of a problem since it was only 5:30, but I did pretty good with that. I also found a route from our old church to a convenience store and back. Thanks to Daily Mile, I altered the course (adding a few streets on the way back) to come right to 4 miles. I was really happy with the planning and had a good run. It was 100 degrees with a heat index of 106 when I was planning and I expected to be drenched with sweat. I did not sweat ONE BIT until I stopped at Exxon, then it came pouring down. I bought a bottle of Smart Water that mostly went right over my head. It had a squirt spout and was great for that. So, in summary, I ran:
- 4.1 miles
- 1:00:05 (not a great pace, but there was a lot of traffic and hills)
- 6:03 pm
- From the old church to the Exxon and back
- 98.1 degrees/43% humidity/clear
I slept in this morning. In the past week 1 friend, 1 co-worker, 2 in-laws and 1 husband have had a stomach bug. I woke up at 12:40 hurting all over. I popped some Ibuprofen and turned off my alarm. I feel fine today, but I wanted to make sure to get enough rest. My bike will still be waiting for me this afternoon!
