Wanna’ know what I’m doing?

26 07 2010

Check me out here!

Oh, yeah!

15 07 2010

I beat the training yesterday – it did not beat me!  In the morning, I rode:

  • 11.38 miles
  • 1:07:13
  • 5:40 am
  • 77 degrees/84% humidity/clear
  • down the highway with Richard

In the evening, I ran:

  • 4.17 miles
  • 58:59
  • 7:36 pm
  • 88 degrees/77% humidity/clear

I feel like I beat the training, because I trained at just the right times.  I know 77 degrees at 5:40 am is ridiculous, but it felt really nice.  The high yesterday was 98 with a heat index of 106, so I did outsmart Mother Nature.

While running around my house, it seems like it never fails that there is a huge hill right when the running interval comes around.  Then, I find myself walking down the hill.  I met my running friend at the community walking track last night, which is absolutely flat.  I really enjoyed running without timing the hills and watching for dogs and rocks, etc..  The temperature had also returned to a good level, with the sun just going behind the trees.  I find that I can handle heat a lot better without the sun right on me.

So, all together, it was a really good day.  Tonight we are going to Amanda’s house for our little girl’s running group and making homemade salsa and chips (really homemade, with fresh grown tomatoes).  I can hardly wait!

Progress is so slow sometimes

14 07 2010

In the morning, I swam:

  • 1,550 meters
  • 55:00
  • 5:40 am
  • lap pool at the gym

Later in the evening I ran:

  • 3.01 miles
  • 45:39
  • 7:15 pm
  • 88 degrees/75% humidity/clear
  • with Amanda on the country road loop (minus the hills)

I am now doing Couch to 5k for the 4th time.  I like the plan and love to run with a pattern in mind.  I find that I get a little faster and it is a little easier to run the prescribed interval each time.  It has taken over a year to be able to run for much over 1/2 mile without stopping.  I guess that just shows how bad things had gotten before.  Oh well, every step is progress.

It takes a village

13 07 2010

Monday morning I rode:

  • 18.68 miles
  • 1:00:00
  • 5:40 am
  • electronic bike at the gym (random program – level 7)

Later in the evening I walked:

  • 2.23 miles
  • 39:13
  • 7:15 pm
  • 90 degrees/61% humidity/clear
  • around the neighborhoods with my new running/walking group!  It is so nice to have someone of equivalent ability and desire to run with.

When I layed down in bed I remembered that I was supposed to do push-ups and sit-ups.  I just rolled over – I did them this morning.

I suck

12 07 2010

Today’s weight is 182.6 with a body fat percentage of 38.5.  I would like to think of this as my highest weight and go from there – a new training and eating plan begins today.  I choose to look toward the future instead of whining about the past (or some other great motivational junk like that).

Moderation

12 07 2010

Avoid extremes.  Forebear resenting injuries so much as you think they deserve.

A fresh clean page

12 07 2010

Starting today, I am getting ready for the Trek Womens Triathlon on October 3rd in Austin, TX.  I love Austin and I am so excited about another triathlon in my near future.  It gives me something to work towards – a reason to sweat out this Louisiana summer.  So, I was up early this morning to ride as part of the training plan.  I like to ride my mountain bike on the roads and trails, but I also like the scientific, measured riding I do while training.  You know – 6 x 1:00 short hills.  Try getting that done in the wild!  So, here we go ….

Weekend summary

12 07 2010

On Thursday, I ran:

  • 3.21 miles
  • 48:54
  • 5:04 pm
  • 93.9 degrees/49% humidity/clear
  • I ran home from work – very, very hot but it was nice to get it done.

Later in the evening, we had the litle girls running club:

  • 2.0 miles
  • 27:54
  • 7:00 pm
  • around the neighborhood with the girls and my friend

On Friday, I rode:

  • 5.45 miles
  • 33:45
  • 6:30 pm
  • 81 degrees/88% humidity/clear
  • with Trey on the country road loop

Later on, I ran:

  • 3.71 miles
  • 58:51
  • 7:51 pm
  • 81 degrees/88% humidity/clear
  • with a friend in her neighborhood

On Saturday, I rode:

  • 17.95 miles
  • 1:31:08
  • 8:43 am
  • 82 degrees/79% humidity/clear
  • rode with Richard around the country roads to the parish line

Later on I swam:

  • 1800 meters
  • 1:00:47
  • lap pool at the gym
  • I have been trying to swim as many laps as possible in one hour.  I had the kids with me, so I stopped often to watch a trick or two.  I am glad to be starting back on a real swimming plan on Tuesday.  It seems to keep me more interested.

On Sunday, I ran:

  • 2.31 miles
  • 36:07
  • 8:30 am
  • 81 degrees/82% humidity/clear
  • with Richard (kind of) on the country road loop.  For some reason he ran/walked about 1/4 mile ahead of me.  I guess he had enough of me over the weekend!

Later on, I ran:

  • 4.4 miles
  • 1:11:34
  • 7:31 pm
  • 88 degrees/72% humidity/clear
  • with my friend around her neighborhood – I think I have found a running partner!

Get up and get moving!

8 07 2010

Yesterday I ran:

  • 2.55 miles
  • 38:12
  • 5:30 pm
  • 82 degrees/79% humidity/clear
  • around the country road loop by myself.  I cut my run short to take Kati to “big girl’s” ball game.

When we got back, I rode:

  • 6.17 miles
  • 31:47
  • 7:47 pm
  • 82 degrees/85% humidity/clear
  • around the country road loop and to the middle school with Richard.  I was taking it easy after such a long ride on Monday.  I say I am taking it easy, but every run and ride around my house is a hill workout – not mountains, but many rolling hills.

After that I talked Richard into finishing my run with me.  We ran:

  • 1.43 miles
  • 20:54
  • 8:55 pm
  • 80.1 degrees/87% humidity/clear
  • around the neighborhood

There was a big storm around 3:30 – you can tell by the cooler temps and higher humidity.  The weather has been alright this past week.   Humid, but that’s what you would expect in Louisiana, right?

Getting in the groove

7 07 2010

Right after work I ran:

  • 3.09 miles
  • 45:24
  • 5:39 pm
  • 86 degrees/72% humidity/hazy
  • around the country road loop by myself

Then, I swam:

  • 1800 meters
  • 57:26
  • 8:35 pm
  • lap pool at the gym with Trey (he’s becoming a pretty good swimmer!)

It was so nice to have a whole evening to work with.  I need to get back into the “1 hour in the morning, 1 hour in the evening” routine, but I am still working on it.  I slept in this morning – it’s really hard for me to go to sleep after swimming.  The dog snoring all night did not help either, do they make breathe-right strips for weiny dogs?
